Aldershot Justice Centre, with Police Station, Court House, Fines and Probation Offices, was built on the site of the old military Warburg Barracks, and officially opened in the early 1970’s. Designed by the Building Design Partnership, this building was part of the Aldershot Civic Complex. This included The Princes Hall, the towns theatre venue, that was originally designed for hosting formal and mayoral events. The Police Station uses the entire ground floor and north wing, the Courts and their administration areas in the south on the first and second floors. Securely connected internally by the now unused cells area.
Designed like the Barbican Estate in London, which showcased the bare building materials and structural elements over decorative design, The Justice Centre, sadly is not as well appreciated or maintained.
Pevsner Architectural Guides thought its similarity to the architects military work was “dispiriting”.
